Mereka adalah Alois Brunner, asisten Adolf Eichman yang diperkirakan tinggal di Suriah. Juga tidak diketahui tentang Heinrich Muller, bos Gestapo, yang tidak pernah terlihat lagi sejak Tahun 1945.
Dan, Aribert Heim, yang menjadi dokter di kamp Mathausen, sebelumnya diperkirakan sudah meninggal, namun ditemukan petunjuk tentang sebuah rekening bank yang dicurigai.
Maka dimulailah perburuan atasnya di Cile, tempat putrinya tinggal sejak tahun 1970-an.
'Tanpa pembiusan'
Heim konon menyusun catatan korban yang dia siksa dan bunuh di kamp konsentrasi Mauthausen di Austria.
Dia dituduh membunuh orang-orang Yahudi dengan cara yang luar biasa kejam.
Menurut orang-orang yang selamat dari Holokos, dia melakukan operasi dan amputasi tanpa pembiusan untuk melihat ketahanan korban terhadap rasa sakit.
Menyuntikkan bahan bakar, air atau racun ke dalam jantung korban dilaporkan menjadi cara yang paling dia suka di Mauthausen.
Pasca perang, Heim ditahan pasukan pendudukan AS, tapi tidak didakwa.
Dia kemudian membuka praktik di Baden-Baden, Jerman sampai tahun 1962, ketika dia melarikan diri setelah mendapat informasi bahwa pihak berwajib akan menuntut dia.
Kelompok pemburu mantan pejabat Nazi menawarkan imbalan 315,000 ero (Rp4,5 miliar) untuk informasi yang bisa mengarah ke penangkapan Heim.
